Tien Shinhan action figures are sought-after collectibles because of their rarity. Many Tien action figures were released as limited items, making them more expensive and harder to find.

Still, we believe Tien action figures are worth the effort because he is easily one of the best characters the Dragon Ball universe. Tien is one of the most powerful non-Saiyan heroes. He is noble and kind, has a vast repertoire of powers that include the Tri Beam Cannon and a technique to give himself two extra arms. He was one of Goku’s earliest rivals and one of the first Dragon Ball heroes who could fly.

Tien Shinhan, with his unsettling three-eyed stare and intense presence, shows us that Goku and company do not have the monopoly on power and potential.

Here’s our roundup of 11 Tien Shinhan action figures, ranked from the ho-hum to the fantastic. You can also check out our previous action figure ranking lists for Bulma and Piccolo.

It is poseable and has good articulation, but the rubber pants makes posing difficult.

Other than it’s a model kit, there’s nothing extra special about this action figure. The assembled action figure is just like most Tien Shinhan action figures but with sculpt and detailing that is not as finely tuned or executed. However, the assembly for this Tien would be a fun activity to undertake.

Tien Shinhan action figures

Articulation: 0/5 stars
Detail: 4/5 stars
Accessories: 1/5 stars
Potential Investment Value: 4/5 stars
Overall Quality: 4/5 stars

This Megahouse action figure depicts Tien and Goku mid-brawl, and it does it so well. Tien and Goku are dynamically posed – Tien falling, Goku striking – and all elements of this action figure/diorama contribute to the drama and the sense of action being portrayed.

The attention to detail for this action figure is outstanding. Tien here cuts a very expressive figure – bulging eyes (all three of them), twisted mouth, and arms and legs akimbo. The tilted platform and vertical lines on the background depict speed and motion. There is so much energy in this figure and it captures perfectly the intense rivalry of Tien and Goku in the early Dragon Ball days.

This Tien figure is a capsule special edition set released by Megahouse in 2005 and it is rather on the steep side of Tien Shinhan action figures. It comes in a dragon ball gashapon, a vending machine-dispensed capsule container that is popular in Japan. You can find the Tien Shinhan Megahouse DragonBall Capsule figure on eBay here.

Tien is set in his usual pose – a glower, feet apart, and clenched fist. The pose, the craftsmanship, and the details of this action figure have been executed very well.

Articulation: 0/5 stars
Detail: 3/5 stars
Accessories: 3/5 stars
Potential Investment Value: 4/5 stars
Overall Quality: 3/5 stars

Released in 2003, this miniature Tien from the Mini Figure Selection is quite unique. It has a distinct all-bronze coloring scheme – no signature green for Tien here – which can be a little unsettling to look at first glance. More diorama than action figure, we love this piece with Tien posed in his Solar Flare technique against a World Tournament backdrop. It’s intense and dramatic,a perfect pose for Tien, and we really don’t mind the non-articulated nature of this figure.

This Tien is a vintage classic and definitely deserves a place in any Dragon Ball fan’s collection. It comes as one of the pieces in the Mini Figure Selection series volume 1, though it looks good on display by itself as well. We believe that it has good investment potential given its very unique appearance.

#5 Banpresto Dragon Ball Z Tenshinhan DXF Figure, Chozousyu Volume 6, 6.7″

Articulation: 0/5 stars
Detail: 3/5 stars
Accessories: 1/5 stars
Potential Investment Value: 3/5 stars
Overall Quality: 3/5 stars

Tien is known for his serious demeanor and hard stare. This Banpresto Tenshinhan DXF Figure comes in with that silent menace captured in Tien’s three-eyed glower. This action figure harkens back to the early Dragon Ball days with Tien in his green outfit with the half-drape on his upper body. There’s great attention to detail to Tien’s features, notably his scar and his formidable expression, and fine sculpting for Tien’s muscles.

Banpresto’s Tien comes in at 6.7 inches and was designed by veteran sculptor Hiroyuki Nakazawa. However, there are no additional accessories and being a non-articulated sculpt, this action figure is best for display only.

This action figure is excellent for a collection but unfortunately, no Tri-Cannon Beams or Solar Flares for us here.

Potential Investment Value: 5/5 stars

One of our favorite Tien action figures is this Tien Shinhan Action Posing Figure by Unifive. So far, it’s the only action figure we’ve seen that allows a depiction of Tien in his Four Witches Technique, a move that gives Tien two extra arms. It’s an imposing figure with an intense pose, interchangeable arms, and an excellent sculpt of Tien’s face and body.

Unfortunately, we could not find this action figure on Amazon or other online toy shops. This figure is so rare, we couldn’t find it anywhere, but you can check here for any recent sightings on Ebay. We’ll be keeping an eye out for this one.

#3 Jakks Pacific 10th Anniversary Collector Edition 2-packs: Semi-perfect Cell vs Tien

Tien Shinhan action figures

Articulation: 3/5 stars
Detail: 3/5 stars
Accessories: 1/5 stars
Potential Investment Value: 5/5 stars
Overall Quality: 4/5 stars

Highlighted as 10th Anniversary Collector Edition, this 2-pack set features Semi-Perfect Cell and Tien. In one of the more highly charged and emotional scenes in Dragon Ball Z, Tien puts up a valiant but futile fight versus Semi-Perfect Cell, unleashing a barrage of Tri Beam attacks to help the androids escape. This scene is Tien at his finest – powerful, selfless, and noble – and this action figure piece immortalizes that.

In this set, Tien is in his usual green ensemble, the top ragged and torn from his struggles with Cell. The action figure itself has articulated joints to be poseable though given its rarity, we doubt that any collector would take it out of its packaging.

With only limited quantities released in 2005 by Jakks Pacific, this is a rare Tien figure, and its retail price is meant for serious collectors with deep pockets. Checkout the 10th Anniversary Collector Edition Tien at Amazon here.

This Jakks Pacific action figure is a well-crafted Tien that is considered a rare collectible. It is part of the Trilogy Series 1 set which covers Dragon Ball,Dragon Ball Z, and Dragon Ball GT. The action figure features Tien in a white shirt and green pants, with key articulation points for movement and poses.

This Tien figure has a very distinct paint job, with deeper and darker shades, that immediately sets it apart from other Tien action figures. The details and sculpting are very well-made as well.

This particular action figure is pricey and harder to find given that it is rare and  sought-after by collectors. It may not be the cup of tea for beginner collectors or casual fans, but we do recommend snatching this one up for your collection if you can, both for its quality and for its investment value. It isn’t available on most online retail shops, though there are toy shops and sellers on Amazon that have it up for sale.

Articulation: 4/5 stars
Detail: 3/5 stars
Accessories: 4/5 stars
Potential Investment Value: 4/5 stars
Overall Quality: 4/5 stars

Our top pick remains to be the Tien Shinhan action figure from S.H. Figuarts. As we’ve discussed before, S.H. Figuarts is the go-to company for quality, detailed, and well-articulated Dragon Ball figures, and their Tien Shinhan figure is no exception. It features Tien Shinhan with his definite and most familiar outfit from the Saiyan saga. It’s finely crafted, well-sculpted, and with wonderful attention to details.

It also comes with additional face plates and hand accessories to recreate Tien’s signature moves, and a fixed posed Chaotzu figure, which we feel is a bit of a let-down and could have been bette. There’s plenty of articulation points on this figure allowing an endless amount of action and dynamic poses.

Overall, there’s a lot to love with this Tien Shinhan action figure. The craftsmanship and the details, plus, it’s easily available and accessible in most toy shops and online retails stores, making this the best Tien action figure across the board for beginner and seasoned collectors.
